Pallet Knives and Palm Trees

Sandra Daniel lives and works in Florida's Forgotten Coast.

She paints plein air scenes of Florida, and abstract oil paintings. Most larger works are created with palette knives resulting is a textured surface which brings an added dimension and vitality.

She creates a sculptural surface on the canvas. Sandra uses specific knife techniques she has developed over the years: a stroke that allows underlying color to show through, a stroke which creates an elongated edge, a stroke that blends several colors. Her collectors say her palette knife work is where the “magic” happens.

Sandra's alma mater is Purdue University. The university's board of trustees commissioned her to paint a gift to President France Cordova: the four paintings included University Hall, the bell tower, the president's home at Westwood, and the Purdue Union.

Sandra's work is in collections in Italy, Germany, France and China.

She has had several shows in the Midwest, one was with artists Suzie Coles, Judy Huth, and Lori Amick for their “Four Broads-A Box-and A Man in a Trenchcoat” exhibition.
Also, Sandra and her then twelve-year-old granddaughter, Kristen,  had a show focusing on family heirlooms in still life format. —So, as you might guess, Sandra believes art should be fun and reflect lightheartedness as well as beauty.
